Steve Key in Rome

Steve recently traveled to Rome to conduct a 3 day Gospel Music workshop at the Evangelical Baptist Church.

Steve writes, "It became very apparent to me that God’s purpose for me taking part in this trip was so much larger than I could have ever imagined. One choir member, an American whose husband works for the UN, came up to me and thanked me for being 'a wonderful Ambassador for the U.S.' and for allowing the Italian people see another side of American citizens."

A blessed event...
Max, Kate and Eliana welcomed Matthias Scarritt Reed Finberg to the world on Friday, July 25 at 5:46pm.

Max and Kate write: Matthias (mah-TEA-es) means "gift of God" and was the 13th apostle (Acts 1). It continues Max's family tradition of a name beginning with "m" for the first-born male. Scarritt is the name of Kate's great-great-grandfather, who was a Methodist preacher who organized some of the first churches in Kansas City, ministered to Native Americans in Kansas and founded a college in Missouri.
Eliana is a proud big sister and our family is overjoyed to be four. We give thanks to God for the gift of our son.

Did you know...?

Our church percussionist, Terron Whitehead, is also an accomplished scuba diver. Here are a couple of pictures from his recent trip to Israel and Egypt, where he did some diving in the Red Sea.

Congratulations to Garrett Carswell, who was named a National Achievement Scholar. The National Achievement® Scholarship Program is an academic competition that provides recognition for outstanding Black American high school students. Out of over 140,000 students who enter the competition, only about 800 are selected as National Achievement Scholars. And Garrett is one of them!

Pastor Sanders was recently interviewed on the "One Nation" program. She discussed the theological underpinnings of Senator Barack Obama's vision of race in America, described how Obama's controversial former pastor Jeremiah Wright has influenced that vision, and defended Wright's "prophetic" ministry. Congratulations to Pastor Boddie

On February 19, Pastor Adamio Boddie was honored by the Mount Vernon Square Neighborhood Association as a Hero of Mt. Vernon Square.  The award recognizes those who have worked to improve the quality of life in our neighborhood.

Pastor Boddie's received his award for "forging a positive relationship with the community, planning Shaw Community Day and a Harvest Festival, addressing vacant property, and for his work with many community organizations."

Many members of Third Street Church came out to share in the occasion with Pastor Boddie, and we congratulate him on this honor.

Pastor Sanders participated in a panel discussion entitled "Choosing a President: What do Evangelicals Want?"  It was televised on C-SPAN and is available via streaming video. Click on the logo to the right to see it.
